Time to tie: 6 - 8 minutes
Rope used: One 30 ft rope
"Shinju" is a Japanese word that means pearl. Within the context of Shibari, "Shinju" refers to the practice of tying ropes around the breasts. The tying of the breasts can create visually striking patterns and sensations for the person being tied, and it is often considered an intricate and intimate aspect of Shibari.
In a strict sense, most chest harnesses could be described as "Shinju" chest harnesses. However, within the world of Shibari, when you hear about a Shinju chest harness, they are referring to this one.
What makes this chest harness so special is that each section is locked using a hitch. In other words, the lark's head that goes around the upper chest and the one that goes around the lower chest are finished in such a way that the ropes won't move when tension is applied to them. The lark's heads are also securely attached to each other. This characteristic makes this chest harness safe for suspensions.
That said, in Shibari Academy we do not teach suspensions because they increase the risk of injury exponentially and are not accessible to a wide audience. We teach Shibari everybody can use and focus on using Shibari as a tool to get to know yourself and your partner on a deeper level.
However, don't let this deter you from practicing the Shinju Chest Harness! You will observe that it is quite similar to the Basic Chest Harness and the Bikini Chest Harness with the main difference being that the sections are locked into place and the weave at the front of the chest harness is a lot sturdier.
Have fun tying!
