Simple Waist Harness

Eve's notes about the Simple Waist Harness

The Lark's Head Single Column Tie makes a stellar appearance in this Simple Waist Harness. Before this tie, we had only dealt with ankles, wrists, bedposts, chairs, and tables as single columns. Now, we get to add the waist to our mental map.

The Simple Waist Harness is a non-restrictive tie which can be worn over clothes, under clothes, or without clothes. That said, if worn without clothes, your rope will get dirty and you will have to wash it before you use it next time (see ShibariRope.com for detailed instructions on how to wash your ropes), keep this in mind when deciding how to best use this waist tie.

Non-restrictive ties in Shibari can be used as a fashion statement, as a way to feel the pressure of ropes against the skin for long periods of time comfortably, and as a means to create pressure and friction in key points of the body (as is the case of this Simple Waist Harness, particularly suited for women).

This tie offers three important communication moments between the person tying and the person being tied:

  1.  Identifying the optimal tightness of the single column around the waist.
  2. Making sure the overhand knot that goes in the crotch area is correctly placed.
  3. Identifying the right tightness of the crotch rope

These three moments require that the person tying asks the correct questions and that the person being tied answers truthfully. I consider this a great introductory tie to develop communication skills between partners. Because it is so easy to tie, the tie itself becomes less important than the actual experience of tying and connecting.

Have fun tying!
