To tie these Hip Cuffs you need to have previously learned:
As you progress in your Shibari journey you will start to realize that most complex ties can be broken down into simple components that can be mastered separately. All you need to do is identify which building blocks are used to tie whatever tie you are interested in learning and start practicing those.
We start by tying a Somerville Bowline Single Column Tie around our partner's wrist, making sure that we leave a loop that reaches all the way to the middle of their lower back. Getting the loop correct is paramount to make this tie as comfortable as possible, so don't hesitate to re-do the cuff if the loop is too large or too small.
The second tie we will use is the Inline Single Column tie. This particular tie allows us to attach a single column to the rope using the middle of the rope.
As you can see, there is nothing particularly new in these Hip Cuffs. The tie just shows off a novel way to use basic ties you have previously learned. Combining basic ties to create new ones is the basis of creativity in Shibari. I invite you to peruse our collection of Single and Double Column ties and find how you can combine them, along with basic knots, to create your own unique ties.
Have fun tying!
