Simple Elbow Tie

Eve's Notes about the Simple Elbow Tie

There will be times in your Shibari journey when you will wish to attach two single columns that cannot go side by side (such as the elbows). This makes using a double column tie impractical since not only will it be uncomfortable for the person being tied, it will also be easily escapable. That said, you could use a single column tie around one of the columns and then an Inline Single Column Tie to attach the other column. While this is a creative solution and it will work to securely attach two single columns, it leaves some wiggle room, which is fine if it's on purpose.

If you wish to attach two single columns that cannot go side by side WITHOUT any wiggle room in an inescapable tie, you want to learn about the Simple Elbow Tie. Despite its name, this tie can be used for any two single columns.

You will first use a lark's head to go around both columns. Then, you will use the remaining rope to loop it around the the ropes that are attaching the single columns. This will create a rigid connection between the single columns.

By now you will have realized that there are plenty of ways to perform any single task in Shibari (such as attaching two single columns, tying a single column, or restraining your partner in a specific position). The technique you choose depends largely on your and your partner's preferences. To figure out what you like, it's important that you try as many different ties as possible and have an honest conversation with your partner about your feelings regarding any particular tie. You will slowly hone in on what both of you enjoy the most. For now, relish in the exploration.

Have fun tying!
