Time to tie: 2 - 4 minutes
Rope used: One 15 ft rope

The inline single column tie allows Shibari practitioners to create a cuff around a limb or body part using the middle of a rope rather than its ends. This means that you could start by attaching the rope to a fixed post such as a bedpost, and then decide to use that same rope to tie a cuff around your partner's wrist or ankle.
Having the ability to create a cuff using the middle of the rope will gift you with a greater freedom to improvise your ties. Granted, improvising ties is only a good idea when you already know how the ropes work and feel comfortable performing a wide variety of ties (make sure you can tie all basic knots and other single column ties before starting your creative streak). The inline single column tie is just another tool to have to boost your creativity.
The more you know, the more you can do, experiment, and invent.
This tie in particular can be a bit tricky to fully master, not because it is difficult in any way, but because the size of the loop you create at the very beginning will have a direct consequence on the how much rope is left between the cuff and whatever is holding the rope in place. The only way to get a feel for how big (or small) that first loop should be is to practice this tie A LOT.
Tie the rope to a fixed post or anchor using a lark's head or whatever knot or tie is easiest for you. Next, practice tying this inline single column tie around your ankle. Experiment with different sized loops until you find a size that you like.
Have fun tying!
