Prayer Tie

Eve's notes about the Prayer Tie

The lark's head knot makes a special appearance once again in the Prayer Tie. You will begin this tie by tying a lark's head around your partner's wrists, making sure the palms of their hands are touching as if in prayer. You will then proceed to weave the rope around the fingers, creating a beautiful pattern and immobilizing their hands in the prayer position.

This is one of those ties that is great for beginners. Not only because it is easy and fast to tie, but also because it is very comfortable and requires no previous experience from either the person tying or the person being tied. It is so comfortable that I once spent close to an hour with it on without any issues.

I'm not entirely sure if it's because of my religious upbringing, but having my hands tied in a prayer position transported me into quite an interesting mindset. It was a place of ironic introspection where my current activity clashed with my childhood memories of spiritual connection during mass. I count myself a huge fan of the juxtaposition and invite you to try it yourself.

In Shibari, the only things that are sacred are the trust, honesty, and communication between partners. Everything else is a playground.

Have fun tying!
