Head Cage

Eve's notes about the Head Cage

I consider head and face Shibari ties the ultimate creative frontier. These ties usually have no functional purpose, that said, they can be emotionally charged like few others. Playing with how your face looks by tying a pattern over it proposes a new aesthetic to your psyche that can be exciting and so much fun! So much of our sense of self is derived by how we see our face that any change to it results in an emotional tug. My recommendation is that you embrace these feelings and enjoy discovering a new look.

In the particular case of head ties, I advise you to avoid Shibari hemp rope. The hemp rope we use in our lessons is too thick and rough to be comfortably placed on the face. Instead, buy around 15 ft of flat laces (like ones you use to tie your shoes. You can buy these at Michael's or any other arts and crafts store). Make sure that whatever you buy is soft to the touch so it doesn't feel uncomfortable when you wear it. There is no right or wrong material for this.

Now that you have your laces, identifying the right length for them can get a little tricky. I recommend you get plenty to spare and start tying with the full length just to get a feel of how much you will need. When you have finished tying there are several options for your remaining laces. You can leave about a foot of extra material and cut it there, or you can use the surplus to tie a hair tie.

I usually have two lengths of laces: One that is pretty exact and the other with plenty to spare. Which one I use depends largely on my mood.

Enjoy exploring and discovering a different you. Wear them at home or out on the streets. Tie them on to go to parties or as an accessory to your Shibari session.

Have fun tying!
