Hair Tie - Lark's Head

Eve's notes about the Lark's Head Hair Tie

The Lark's Head makes yet another stellar appearance in the Lark's Head Hair Tie. This useful little knot is first tied around your partner's hair and is then secured using a loop. The Lark's Head Hair Tie is one of my all-time favorite hair ties because it creates a bun that not only looks fantastic, but also holds in place even under tension.

As is my recommendation when tying any hair tie (especially for beginners), begin by tying your partners hair in a ponytail using a regular hairband. This will organize the hair and let you concentrate on tying the hair tie instead of having to deal with unruly and probably very smooth hair.

Hair Ties can be used for a variety of purposes:

  1. As a public fashion statement. This particular Shibari Hair Tie will definitely turn heads in the street because it is both strange and beautiful.

  2. As a way to provide pleasure to your partner. Pulling your partner's hair using a hair tie provides similar effects as a scalp massage. A scalp massage releases feel-good hormones and stimulates muscles and blood vessels that are highly sensitive to touch.

Also important to note is the thin line between pleasure and pain. The closer you get to the boundary, the greater the pleasure sensation (for most people). The Hair Tie allows you to play with this boundary. Pull the hair tie gently at first and ask your partner how they feel. Increase the tension slowly and steadily until they ask you to stop.

  3. As a way to keep your partner's head in place during a Shibari session. As the person tying, you may wish to keep your partner's head from moving during a session.

I recommend you explore all three scenarios and be mindful about your experience. What did you like? What did you dislike? What would you do differently? Being aware of how you feel and why will help improve your Shibari experience.

Have fun tying!
