Horse Head Cage

Eve's notes about the The Horse Head Cage

The Horse Head Cage recreates a horse's harness using rope and a little style. (Check out our lesson on the Head Cage for tips on materials and length.)

While we only propose two head ties in our courses, the Head Cage and the Horse Head Cage, these are by no means the only options out there. We chose these ties because they serve as great examples of two different ways you can go about creating your own head ties:

  1. You can get inspiration from the world around you and try to recreate whatever inspires you using rope. (Such is the case of the Horse Head Cage).

  2. You can enjoy playing with different patterns and anchor points and see what comes out (as is the case of the Head Cage). You can twist the rope or tie overhand knots to create diamond shapes. You can tie guide lines around the face or forehead and use hitches to hold the rope in place. You can focus on a specific feature like the eyes or mouth and accentuate it.

Whatever you choose, it's very important you remember that tying any material around the neck can be dangerous if the knot is not securely fastened. Make sure that you do not create any kind of slip knot in your creative frenzy and remember to always have safety shears at hand.

After you practice both of the head ties in our courses, you will have understood how to handle the ropes around the head and what options you have to put your own twist to them.

Have fun tying!
