Before tying a Prusik Head Knot on anyone's hair get familiar with the knot by going over our lesson on the Inline Prusik Hair Knot. The Prusik Head Hair Tie is basically an Inline Prusik Head where the anchored line is your partner's hair.
That said, hair behaves a lot more unpredictably than rope. It is not uncommon for a promising start to a hair tie to devolve into a tangled mess. Hair is also quite slippery. It lacks the friction provided by natural fiber ropes so there is nothing to hold your tie up while you are in the process of tying it. This makes tying hair ties a trying endeavor that can result in some frustration.
This is why I recommend you tie a pony tail on your partner's hair before beginning the tie. This will help you keep the hair together so you can work more effectively. Once you have finished tying the hair tie, you can choose to cut the hairband to get a more aesthetically pleasing knot. However, if you don't really care about aesthetics, you can leave the hairband on, it won't impede the tie from doing its job.
One of the characteristics of the Prusik Head is that it will tighten under tension. It's important to note that unlike the Klemheist Hitch Hair Tie, it doesn't matter in which direction you pull, the Prusik Head will tighten regardless.
Enjoy getting your hair pulled for a while. I promise you won't regret it.
Have fun tying!
