Hair Tie - Klemheist Hitch

Eve's notes about the Klemheist Hitch

Hair ties are an easy and fun addition to a Shibari session. You may use the hair tie on its own as a sort of fashion statement, or you could use it to attach your partner's hair to some fixed anchor or post. The feeling of getting your hair pulled can be quite pleasurable if done carefully. I recommend you experiment with different levels of tension so you discover both yours and your partner's pleasure profiles.

This hair tie uses the famous Klemheist hitch. The Klemheist hitch is most popular among climbers because it will lock under tension but slide when no tension is applied.

-- Student: Hmm, but haven't we already learned about a knot that does exactly this same thing?

-- Eve: You must be thinking about the Prusik Head Knot. Good catch!

While the Prusik Head Knot and the Klemheist Hitch share their ability to lock under tension, unlike the Prusik, the Klemheist Hitch will only lock in a single direction. This means that if you apply tension to the wrong direction, the hitch will simply slide off. This characteristic is not necessarily a bad thing. It means that once you have put it on, it is easy to slide up and place closer to the skull.

Have fun tying!
