Strong Heel Tie Weave

Eve's notes about the Strong Heel Tie Weave

The strong heel tie weave uses a basic X-shape structure tied around the foot as a foundation to start weaving. In essence, it is very similar to the basic heel tie weave in the sense that it uses an X-shape foundation and macrame principles to create a beautiful pattern.

That said, unlike the basic heel tie weave in which we weaved single strands of rope around the X, with the strong heel tie weave we weave two strands of rope at the same tie. In Shibari, it is common to fold the rope in half and work with two strands of rope at the same time instead of only one. Using two strands of rope creates more comfortable and safer ties as well as loops that can be used as structural anchors in more complex ties.

In the case of the strong heel tie weave, using two strands of rope creates a more solid and comfortable boot. This tie is actually so sturdy, that it is often used for suspensions because it can hold a lot of weight.

At Shibari Academy, we don't teach anything related to suspensions because the risk of injury increases exponentially. That said, there is no rule saying that you can't use this strong heel tie for a Shibari session that does not involve suspension. Use it to attach the foot to a solid anchor and start from there.

Have fun tying!
