Frog Tie

Eve's notes about the Frog Tie

The Frog Tie consists of using a Lark's Head Double Column Tie on your partner's (or your own) thighs and ankles. You will need two short ropes (short ropes are usually 15 ft long. Check out our Free Shibari 101 lessons on rope lenght and thickness and choosing rope for more information) one for each leg. By the time you are finished tying the person being tied will be set in a frog like position.

There is nothing different between the Frog Tie and a pair of Lark's Head Double Column Ties. That said, it is sometimes useful to see examples of how basic ties can be used in novel ways to create different effects. The effect of a double column tie tied around the thigh and ankle is quite different than that produced by tying the wrists together. If you have gone through our lessons in order, you already know how to tie this!

A few words of advice for the person being tied (in this case, this could be your partner or yourself):

If you are new to the world of Shibari, this will probably be one of the first ties that requires you to be in a fixed position for an extended period of time. I recommend you

  1. Stretch before the session
  2. Make sure you are sitting on a soft surface like a bed, a mat, or a couch.
  3. Communicate with the person that is tying you about the tightness of the ropes around your thigh. Are they too tight? Are they too loose?
  4. When you start feeling uncomfortable, be kind to yourself and mindful about your body. It may be nice to sit with the discomfort for a little while but make sure you don't hurt yourself.
  5. When you are untied, ask your partner to, stretch your legs and back.

Have fun tying!
