Lark's Head Heel Tie

Eve's notes about the Lark's Head Heel Tie

The lark's head heel tie is the perfect introduction to the mix of Shibari and fashion. This tie can be worn outside the bedroom for all the world to see and admire. It provides a mechanism to attach pretty much anything to your foot, whether it be a heel shoe or a bedpost.

The lark's head knot provides a useful way for Shibari practitioners to tie a rope around any single column. We've already explored how to use the lark's head as a starting point for a single column tie. Now, we will dive into how its structure can be used to change the rope's direction by 90° and tie a Lark's Head Heel Tie.

Unlike the lark's head single column tie, in which the ropes all go horizontally around the single column, the lark's head heel tie uses the lark's head as an anchor point to change the direction of the rope from horizontal to vertical.

The lark's head knot is a favorite among Shibari practitioners because it allows you to:

  1.  Reverse the tension of the rope while keeping the single column securely fastened
  2.  By reversing the tension, you change the direction of the rope by 180° which allows you to continue tying in the opposite direction
  3. Change the direction of the rope from horizontal to vertical (90° change)
  4. Creates loops which you can use as structural points in any of your ties

Understanding how to use these four principles of the lark's head knot will permit the creation of all kinds of beautiful and complicated ties.

Once you have mastered this heel tie, I recommend you explore how to apply the four principles on your own ties. Tie a lark's head around a single column and let your imagination flow. This is about unleashing your creative potential because you now understand how the ropes work and are ready to give your imagination a go.

Have fun tying!
