Time to tie: 1 - 2 minutes
Rope used: One 15 ft rope

The chain stitch technique is one that has been passed down by generations throughout human history and has found its way into popular culture, particularly into the lives of climbers, children, and Shibari practitioners. It is incredibly easy to learn, fun to tie, and beautiful, making it a must-have technique in the repertoire of any serious rigger.
The chain stitch technique consists of a series of intertwined loops, passing the rope through each loop, but not completely, so as to create another loop, and so on until you wish to stop. To finish up this technique, simply pass the remaining rope through the final loop. To unravel your chain, pull the rope through the last loop and keep on pulling. Your chain will become undone as if by magic.
The chain stitch technique is used by climbers to store their ropes to keep them from tangling while at the same time allowing for quick untying; it is used by children to create lovely friendship bracelets (being careful to properly finish the tie else it will unravel), and by Shibari practitioners to create beautiful ties as well as to store their ropes.
In this case, we use the chain stitch technique to create a single column tie in seconds. This tie only requires three loops, but you can go on for as long as you like.
Have fun tying!
