Adjustable Tension Single Column Tie

Eve's notes about the Adjustable Tension Single Column Tie

We're taking a dive into another practical application of the beloved prusik head knot (see the prusik head single column to discover how to create a ready-to-use cuff). This useful knot has the characteristic of tightening under tension while behaving like a slip knot when the rope is slack. It gives us the opportunity to create ties that MOVE!

You start by tying a prusik head knot on one end of the rope and tying other end to a fixed anchor or post. Next, using another rope, tie the tie your heart desires the most. This could be a single column tie on your partner's wrist or ankle, it could be a futomomo bounding their leg, or it could be a chest tie that immobilizes their hands behind their back. It really depends on what you want your partner to experience and how confident you feel in your Shibari abilities. In the picture above, we tied a prusik head single column to the prusik head knot, but don't feel limited in any way by our choice, we just liked how the picture looked!

Once you have tied your partner, use the excess rope to pass it through the prusik head. Ask your partner to create tension on the rope by attempting to move away. You will see that the prusik head will hold fast. This is an opportunity for both the person tying and the person being tied to understand how this particular knot works by experiencing it in action.

Have fun tying!
