Time to tie: 2 minutes
Rope used: 2 ropes. 1 - 2 feet of each one
When I formally learned about The Fisherman's knot, I was brought back to my elementary school years and my obsession with making friendship bracelets for all my friends (I'm sure lots of 90s babies can relate). Without knowing it, back then, I was actually using this knot to create bracelets that were easy to put on and take off and that allowed my friends to choose just how tightly they wanted to wear them.
This knot is useful not only for girls and boys making friendship bracelets or fishermen tying up their lines, but also to pretty much anyone that wants to tie two ropes together. If we analyze this knot closely, we will see that it is the knot that each rope creates around the other that is used as a sort of stopper, preventing the ropes from separating. You can use this knot if you are ever in need of attaching two sets of ropes. That said, there are easier and faster ways of attaching two ropes that are actually more comfortable to wear for the person being tied such as the square knot or the lark's head, so odds are you won't be using this much in your Shibari journey.
That said, you get to learn the best knot there is for friendship bracelets. You are never too old to show your friends your appreciation.
Have fun tying!
