Time to tie: 2.5 - 4 minutes
Rope used: One 15 ft rope

The basic double column tie is a great introductory tie to begin your incursion into the realm of immobilization and restraint. The way the ropes flow is easy and intuitive so tying these cuffs comes almost naturally (more so if you have already practiced basic knots and single column ties).
For those beginning their Shibari journey, the basic double column tie marks the start of emotionally dense ties for the person being tied. This tie will restrain your partner's wrists and, if tied correctly, they will not be able to escape. Being thrust into a position of complete vulnerability, even when it is consensual and has been previously discussed, should not be taken lightly.
As the person tying, ask your partner how they feel. You can start with easy questions such as: Are the cuffs too tight or too loose? and proceed to more challenging questions like: Are you comfortable? How does it feel knowing you can't get free without me? The more curious you are about your partner's feelings, the deeper your connection will become.
Know that at first, being restrained can feel uncomfortable for the person being tied. Ask them to sit with their discomfort for a little while, soothing them with reassurances that everything is ok and that you understand and respect the level of trust they are gifting you.
Have fun tying!
