Straight Jacket

Eve's notes about the Straight Jacket Tie

A straight jacket commonly has a single use: to restrain a person considered clinically insane. Given this background, the Straight Jacket tie in Shibari is almost begging for a little bit of role play.

In my particular case, I find role-playing difficult in general. It's challenging for me to commit to a character that isn't myself, and I often become extremely self-conscious about my acting abilities. I tend to get stuck inside my head, allowing my inner critic to gain strength and momentum, which can get in the way of my enjoyment. However, I've discovered that costumes help hide the person I think I am and allow me to explore a different perspective on life. In this sense, the Straight Jacket Tie becomes more than a tie; it's a transformative garment.

The Straight Jacket Tie in Shibari, unlike its clinical counterpart, is a conduit for exploration rather than restraint. It represents a safe and consensual foray into the world of role-playing, where the physical confines of the tie can surprisingly liberate the mind.

I invite you to explore what would need to happen to your psyche for you to need a Straight Jacket. What inner thoughts or emotions might you be struggling to contain? How can this tie help you confront them in a safe space? Remember, the world of Shibari is not just about the physical ties; it's about the mental and emotional journeys they represent.

Tying the Straight Jacket is an exercise in trust and vulnerability, both for the one being tied and the one doing the tying. It requires a deeper level of communication and understanding between partners. As you engage in this tie, use it as an opportunity to connect with your partner on a more profound level. Discuss your feelings, fears, and fantasies. Use this tie as a tool to break down walls and explore new facets of your relationship. So go ahead, dive into this experience, and see where it takes you.

Have fun tying!
